A continuing conversation
Academic research can be isolating, especially when you have spent months with a question that few people around you know much about. I make room in our meetings for unfinished ideas and for the frustrations that come with the work. You can ask a basic question about a difficult text or talk through an argument you are not yet ready to put on the page. I enjoy spending time with someone else’s thinking, exploring what interests them and helping an idea take shape.
I take a personal interest in the people I work with. There is room to talk about how the research is going, share a discovery, or work patiently through something that has left you stuck. I read your writing with care, offer thoughtful feedback and take time to discuss it with you.
Over time, we build a conversation that belongs to your project. We can return to earlier questions and follow promising connections as your thinking develops. You have someone alongside you who knows your work, welcomes your questions and cares about how you are getting on.
